At Physical Solutions, we use ATM2 to treat pain and to help our patients improve their range of motion. It has helped many people with pain or stiffness who have not responded to other forms of treatment for their backs, hips, knees, or shoulders. Since we specialize in providing physical therapy with a sports-medicine edge, many of our patients are athletes. The value in the ATM2 is that it allows us to treat the patient in a weight-bearing, functional position for quick and direct impact on sports or in daily life.
In physical therapy but we find that people often have pain just beyond an area that is stiff. The pain occurs where the body compensates for this stiffness. So treatment that addresses the stiffness is necessary to correct the problem and alleviate the pain. As long as the stiffness remains, it is not likely the pain will be alleviated permanently. We've used ATM2 to help golfers, for example, who may have a tightness that limits their swing, which in turn causes pain. This same stiffness would of course limit the swing, making it less effective. Even athletes as young as 15 may experience pain because of a nearby and unrecognized lack of flexibility and mobility. So while we can temporarily alleviate the pain, the long-term solution requires that we loosen the stiff joints and muscles.
We have treated a couple of golfers who have had back and leg pain which caused them to cut back on golf or stop playing completely. Using the ATM2 allowed them to return to golf pain free with the ability to swing more freely.
We've used ATM2 several times a day for about a year now at Physical Solutions and look forward to using this effective technique even more. To learn more, please visit our website at physicalsolutionsnc.com
