Patient Case Study Summary Of the Clinical Trial

BACKtoGOLF Performance & Fitness

I have successfully used the ATM®2 to treat 133 clients to date. The clients have ranged in age from 17 to 84 years old. The medical diagnoses that I have treated using the ATM®2 include the following:

  • Lumbar spine sprain/strain
  • Lumbar disc herniation
  • Degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine
  • Spondylolithesis
  • Lumbar facet syndrome
  • Post lumbar laminectomy
  • Post lumbar fusion
  • Lumbar spondylosis
  • SI dysfunction
  • OA of the hip
  • Post THR
  • Cervical spine sprain/strain
  • Post ACL reconstruction

In addition, I have used the ATM®2 to increase thoracic mobility in clients with postural dysfunctions (particularly those with upper cross syndromes) and in golfers.

The overall average number of treatment sessions in which the ATM®2 was used as part of the treatment plan was 4.6. The average number of treatment sessions for specific medical diagnoses is as follows:

Lumbar spine sprain/strain
Lumbar disc herniation
Degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine
Lumbar facet syndrome
Post lumbar laminectomy
Post lumbar fusion
Lumbar spondylosis
SI dysfunction
OA of the hip
Post THR
Cervical spine sprain/strain
Post ACL reconstruction

3.9
4.7
6.8

3.7
3.2
4.2
5.1
2.0

The average number of treatment sessions for postural dysfunction clients was 4.8 (17 clients) and for golfers was 4.6 (18 golfers).

The ATM®2 has played a key role in the early phases of treatment. It has been instrumental in improving functional range of motion and in pain control. All clients with medical diagnoses involving the lumbar spine (except 2) have reported a minimum of 60% improvement in their pain following treatment sessions that used the ATM®2.

I have found the ATM®2 to be a valuable tool in treating clients with various orthopaedic spine problems, clients with postural dysfunction, and working with golfers to improve posture at address and thoracic spine mobility during the golf swing. The benefits of the ATM®2 include:

  • Pain control
  • Increasing range of motion
  • Enhancing joint mobilization/manipulation
  • Facilitation of core muscles
  • Joint proprioception
  • More efficient time management for the physical therapist
  • Improved outcomes

I am very excited about the ATM®2 and its potential applications as a treatment tool for the physical therapist. I have been most impressed (as have my clients) with the results I have seen so far.
